United Methodist Church awarded Campaign Against Human Trafficking-SouthShore, known as CAHT, a $4,019 check for being chosen as January’s Mission of the Month.  UMC’s Ministries program chooses each month a local nonprofit that they feel benefits the community through their services and education programs.  CAHT was chosen by the Ministries committee for the month of January.  The monies donated are raised by the UMC parishioners during the Sunday services in January.  CAHT plans on using the funds in their expanding back-packing program for struggling children, teens and human trafficking and domestic violence victims.   AHT is the recipient of  January’s Mission of the Month, receiving a check for $4,000 from the church.  The monies will be used to fund our education and prevention programs in our area schools as well as other nonprofits working on the front line in providing homes and rehabilitation for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.

Grant for Emergency Shelter

Interfaith Council Volunteer, MaryAnn Alyesworth from the Newly New Shop, CAHT Board of Directors Bonnie Doil, John Mitchell and Debbie Petrocelli receiving $5k Check

CWe are proud to share with our members and guests our new grant pilot program: South Shore Safe Emergency Shelter for Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence Victims. Last week the Interfaith Council of SCC donated $5k to fund the start-up of a much needed program for our south shore community. Presently, there is not a community coordinated safe emergency shelter in the lower south shore area of Hillsborough County where teens, women, families, seniors and other threatened members of our community who need immediately to be relocated out of a dangerous situation can be placed until a further assessment can be made. CAHT will provide funding for a hotel, food and gas if needed. This pilot program is to assist our community’s law enforcement, schools, and other front-line social service and nonprofit agencies that are trying to manage a crisis and need to quickly remove an individual or family that may be a target for potential human trafficking, or who is caught in a domestic violence environment. The United Methodist Church is partnering with CAHT in this program and will assist in the implementation of the pilot program. CAHT’s Healthcare Committee is spearheading this program.

The Shell Crafters Club creates home décor, jewelry and unique gifts with seashells. Proceeds from the sale of those items are donated to charitable, non-profit organizations. CAHT feels very fortunate to be one of the chosen non-profits. The funds will be put to good use to support their various anti-human trafficking activities in the tri-county area.
