CAHT has another successful fundraising event!
Sunday evening, Aug. 12th, almost 100 anti-human trafficking supporters gathered at Hamburger Mary’s Brandon location for a rousing fun bingo night. What was unique besides the fun venue with drag queen Antwanette Roberts calling out the bingo numbers, was the underlying sad fact that the LGBT community also is battered by human traffickers in our area. Campaign Against Human Trafficking-SouthShore (CAHT) President Annie Garrison and the Board recognize this, and chose to hold a fundraiser at Hamburger Mary’s, a popular restaurant that only hires LGBT staff. “Human Traffickers target all segments of our society including the LGBT community, said Annie Garrison. All victims share two things in common – loss of freedom and sense of worth. We need to give them a voice and a sense of empowerment. Everyone at this fundraiser was a winner, and we look forward to another opportunity to reach out to our local LGBT community as they are an important member of our mainstream culture, like other segments of our society.”
